Effective next week, owner-operators for American Central Transport Inc. (ACT) will receive 2 cents per mile extra for installing a camera system on their trucks.
“Giving [ACT independent contractors] this increase is our way of saying thanks for making our fleet even safer with the addition of a drive cam. We’re very proud of ACT’s safety record and this is an important step in protecting our drivers and the motoring public,” said Chief Operating Officer Phillip Wilt.
Earlier this year, the Liberty, MO-based truckload carrier reported “a marked reduction in risky behaviors” in testing the Lytx DriveCam program’s combination of video, predictive analytics and real-time driver feedback and coaching.
The video also can be used to exonerate drivers and protect them from false claims, Kretsinger noted.
“At ACT, we believe strongly that complying with laws alone doesn’t make us as safe as we can be. We strive for continuous improvement through safety technology and that led us to Lytx,” said Tom B. Kretsinger, Jr., ACT president and CEO. “The trial showed us that ACT has really good drivers but really good drivers are always learning; they know we can all get better.”
Also beginning Aug. 24, ACT contractors will receive $1.05 per loaded mile if they have a HAZMAT endorsement, and $0.99 per loaded mile for non-HAZMAT contractors, with $0.90 being paid for empty miles plus fuel surcharge on all miles, the company announced.
