Things got a little bit real Thursday morning, Sept. 1 as reporters tested out Mack Trucks 2017 powertrain hardware and technology in on- and off-pavement situations at the OEM's Allentown, PA customer facility.

The Mack LR on the right was the only truck on the test track with a 2014 engine; in this case, it's an MP7 11L rated at 345 hp/1,280 lbs.-ft. of torque. The Granite Axle Forward roll-off next to it has a 2017 MP8 13L with 445 hp/1,860 lbs.-ft. of torque.
The gold Mack bulldog on the hood indicates there's a Mack engine, transmission and rear axle in this truck.
