The purpose behind our Dash Cam of the Week series is educational. Some clips remind truckers to be vigilant; a few have highlighted extraordinary efforts on the highway; and others serve as examples of what not to do when driving truck.
This week, we’re not sure there’s a lesson to be learned, other than always buckle up. These incidents caught our attention because they are eerily similar and happened within days of each other earlier this month. Simply, these drivers were in the wrong place at the wrong time—and there was nothing much they could’ve done about it.
In the first dash cam, the truck passes through a highway intersection then inexplicably veers right and just misses an evergreen before hitting a brick home flush. According to a report from WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, NC, investigators said a car—driven a man with a revoked license—ran a stop sign and hit the dump truck. The home, unoccupied at the time of the crash, suffered extensive damage and likely will be condemned.
The dump truck driver was taken a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Additional photos from the scene are available with the news story.
An eerily similar accident happened just days earlier in Texas, sending the truck driver to the hospital in critical condition, according to the YouTube post.
Finally, while not a dash cam clip, the WBKO news video below tells the story of a trucker who crashed into a building and left the scene. The sheriff expresses some doubts about the driver’s explanation of the incident, once he was pulled over.
